Sycamore Health’s transformative commercial medical fitout, expertly executed by Total Fitouts Sunshine Coast South, marked a significant milestone in the creation of sophisticated and functional healthcare spaces. Client James Sikkema had approached Total Fitouts Sunshine Coast South to establish a second location, branching out from the original business in Brisbane. The objective was to completely rebrand the area into a health hub, with a specific focus on attracting specialists.
This high-end build, sprawling across 293 square meters in the affluent Sippy Downs area, showcased both clinic and gym spaces. Notable features included a specialised gym area and two treatment rooms earmarked for future day surgeries, aligning with the client’s strategic expansion plans. Additionally, the facility housed two rooms dedicated to mental health, wellness, and rehabilitation, bringing the total number of rooms to seven.
A standout element of the commercial medical fitout was the reception area, designed with a modern Mediterranean coastal theme. This captivating design incorporated archways, terracotta styles, coastal timbers, a timber screen, and brass detailing features. The waiting room boasted custom booth seats covered in leather vinyl for hygiene and longevity, complemented by a reception desk. Curved walls not only enhanced the aesthetic but also ensured DDA compliance, accommodating wheelchairs with wider hallways and doors—a testament to the client’s affinity for curves.
The reception area further showcased recessed LED mood lighting that defined the space. Mood and task lighting, wall feature lighting, and cork flooring in the reception area for sound acoustics contributed to the overall ambience. Tiled flooring throughout the remaining spaces maintained a seamless and clean aesthetic. The rest of the commercial fit out encompassed hardwood warm timbers, custom arched cavity sliders, and built-in storage with marble countertops. Essential functional areas were also implemented, such as a staff kitchen, laundry, and storeroom, with a significant portion of the fixtures being custom joinery.
Critical to the success of the commercial medical fitout was the adherence to Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) standards, ensuring all aspects were compliant with health codes. Telia, Total Fitouts Sunshine Coast South in-house commercial interior designer commented, “The strategic planning and deliberate commercial design of the medical spaces were crafted with an eye toward future-proofing and adherence to DDA compliance, ensuring the fulfilment of all health codes.”
