The Peacemaker Saloon, nestled in the bustling food and bar district of Mort Street, Braddon, is a cowboy-inspired Western bar offering an authentic slice of Americana right in Canberra. The interior fitout, designed by commercial design experts Form & Fellow and executed by shopfit experts Total Fitouts Canberra North, captures the rugged yet welcoming spirit of the Wild West. Timber flooring sets the stage, leading into a space enriched with VJ paneling and ornate wainscoting that lend texture and warmth.

Marko Jelinic, Director at Total Fitouts Canberra North says, “The bar area stands out with its blue and white tiling, paired with a frosted, stained-patterned mirror and bespoke signage overtop that reflects the room’s rustic yet sophisticated atmosphere.”

The predominant colour palette, a deep green-blue from Resene, weaves through the saloon, creating a cohesive and inviting environment.

The scope of the commercial hospitality fitout was extensive, covering multiple areas including the kitchen, bar, cool rooms, and various dining spaces. Guests can choose from high seating, booth seating, or relax in the secret private room, cleverly disguised behind cupboard doors. This hidden function room adds a layer of intrigue and exclusivity to the venue. High ceilings, originally stripped out, were reinstated with exposed metal beams spray-painted black, enhancing the industrial yet cozy vibe of the space.

Marko continues, “The lighting, carefully selected to evoke a warm, ambient glow, complements the saloon’s old-world charm.”

Challenges were inevitable, given the age of the building. Minor setbacks in the commercial hospitality fitout timeline arose as the team navigated the quirks of the structure, but these hurdles were expertly managed, resulting in a seamless blend of old and new.

The final result is a beautifully crafted saloon that captures the rugged charm of the Wild West while offering a modern, inviting space for patrons. The efficient use of space, combined with the harmonious green-blue mixed with gold colour scheme, creates a warm and welcoming environment, making Peacemaker Saloon a standout destination on Mort Street, Braddon.
